du and China Telecom Global sign MoU on UAE smart-nation telecom projects
du and China Telecom Global (CTG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on telecommunications systems linked to the UAE’s smart-nation agenda.
The agreement sets a framework for work in six areas: video services, connected-car systems, autonomous networks, voice services, roaming, and travel e-SIMs. Both companies will assess and deploy technologies for commercial use in the UAE.
Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Executive Officer at du, said:
“This partnership with China Telecom Global represents our commitment to bringing world-class innovation to the UAE by co-creating solutions that address the unique needs of our market while supporting the UAE’s vision of becoming a global smart nation leader. We actively seek strategic alliances that amplify our ability to deliver cutting-edge services to our customers and support the UAE’s digital vision.”
The MoU includes plans to apply AI and data tools in video systems, integrate IoT functions into connected-car platforms, test autonomous network management, and expand cross-border connectivity through roaming and e-SIM services.
Ziyu Dong, General Manager of China Telecom Africa & Middle East, said:
“We are excited to partner with du to bring China Telecom’s extensive telecommunications expertise and innovative solutions to the UAE market. Leveraging our advanced network technologies and operational excellence with du’s deep understanding of the UAE market, we can deliver cutting-edge telecommunications services that will accelerate the nation’s smart city ambitions and enhance connectivity for millions of users.”
CTG will contribute network infrastructure and technology development capabilities, while du will lead deployment within the UAE market.
Why it matters
The UAE is expanding national digital programmes and requires increased network capacity and new service layers.
Operators are moving toward automated networks, IoT-linked mobility services, and e-SIM adoption.
The collaboration gives du access to CTG’s global network assets, and CTG access to a regional market with rising enterprise demand.
Joint development efforts may speed up the rollout of connected-car functions, network automation and cross-border connectivity services in the UAE.
